B r a Z I L…stylishly savvy for the perfect future trip
Long on my list of places to visit, Brazil has always been at the back of my mind. It was about the time I saw some incredible brazilian beauty shaking her tush to the dirty beats of Rio’s carnival. All I wanted was to be THAT girl. So it’s about time I did something about it. Researching my brazil trip is like a dreamy hobby that just won’t go away. So now i’ve narrowed it down and this is what i’ll do. Until I find some other hidden gem and decide that’s the one instead. Making a decision could be a good idea, but mañana mañana, maybe i’m Brazilian after all. First on anyone’s agenda is to find a comfortable place to stay. I can slum it with the best of them and for 2 nights at least i’ll book into a mixed dorm hostel. When the moaning and groaning (and not through sleep talking either) start to test my sleeping stamina, that’s when i’ll try one of these beauties. Still a hostel kind of feel but in a super stylish way. I’ve had a few experiences on air bnb and if I could ram it down your throat how much I love it anymore I would! For £50 a night, only a fraction more than a mixed dorm bunk bed, you have your own king size bed, ensuite and brazilian breakfast thrown in. Not only that but my favourite part is that you get to meet and make friends (sometimes for life) with the locals. And their friends. And their friends of friends. Before you know it you’ve got connections all over the shop with in-the-know locals who treat you like family. Santa Teresa: A beautiful colonial hub of Rio bursting with artists, poets, musicians and film directors a plenty. Just 7 minutes outside of Rio and you’re overlooking Christ the Redeemer and Sugar Loaf Mountain whilst swinging in a hammock with a caipirinha in hand. There are so many amazing places to stay that I was hard pressed to pick my top 3. But here they are, based on value for money and stylish sleeping. Casa Cool Beans £50 a night double occupancy, private room http://www.casacoolbeans.com/ Casa 579 £35 8 bed dorm plus you can get involved with a wicked volunteer project for the favela at the bottom of the street http://www.casa579.com/ Air bnb casa 48 £45 a night double occupancy bed and breakfast https://www.airbnb.com.au/rooms/76300 And for the rest: Cruz the Coast Brazil: I’ve worked out that ‘liking’ them on Facebook doesn’t even cut it. I want in. To be thrown about in a bus for 10 hours sounds like just the ticket. And i’m not even joking. I think of brazil as that kind of place-a mis match of discomfort and agitation mixed with incredible energy and a riot of colours bright enough to give you a headache that makes it all worthwhile. Cruz the Coast is a 10 night, 11 day trip up the coast from Rio to Slavadore, beach hopping along Buzios, Trancoso, Vitoria and Itacare with all your accommodation, breakfast and lunches included. It’s $750!! Amazing.
